November 14, 2002
On Thursday, November 14, 2002, the Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute of Public Affairs will hold its 10th Annual California Policy Conference Issues Conference at the Wilshire Grand Hotel. As in other years, the conference will focus on timely policy issues that affect California communities.
In the face of national and local concerns with citizenship and what it may mean to all of us, we have selected a unique theme that illustrates the contemporary contradictions of emphasizing togetherness and the local attempts at devolution and decentralization. Titled "Building a Civil Society: Separate Geographies and Shared Destinies," the day-long conference will focus on social implications and issues, as well as, infrastructural and governance ramifications of urban secession. The current attempts to divide the City of Los Angeles into three or more cities will be analyzed by a group of scholars and policymakers at the 10th Annual Conference.
The material from this conference will be published later as a manuscript and made available to the public.
