The Pat Brown Institute’s Policy Training & Community Outreach division serves as the umbrella for PBI’s safe and healthy communities programs. PBI’s Training Institute for Law Enforcement expands upon the community policing philosophy to explore the capacity to achieve “community governance” – a proactive model that involves all sectors of a community in problem solving to enhance public safety. PBI’s Health Policy Outreach Center (HPOC) also brings together diverse representatives to develop a unified voice to advance public policy for healthier communities. PBI views its Public Policy Internship as laying the groundwork for safer and healthier communities by providing valuable training and professional experience for students to advance their interests in the public sector.
