Public Policy Internship Program

The Institute's heralded internship program exposes students to applied experiences in public policymaking while also introducing them to career opportunities in public service. Graduate and outstanding undergraduate students from Cal State L.A. and other universities are typically placed in three- and six-month internships with policy-makers at local, regional and national levels. The generous support of private sector partners has made it possible for the Institute to provide interns with stipends during the life of their placements.

Thank you for your interest in the Pat Brown Institute of Public Affairs Public Policy Internship Program.

The Institute's heralded internship program exposes students to applied experiences in public policy issues while also introducing them to career opportunities in public service. Graduate and outstanding undergraduate students from Cal State L.A. are typically placed in three- and six-month internships with policymakers at local, regional and national levels. The generous support of private sector partners has made it possible for the Institute to provide interns with stipends during the life of their placements. 

PBI has placed interns with city and county government, California State Legislature, United States Congress, Public Policy Research, and community and advocacy organizations.  Our most recent interns held positions with:

 

  • US Congresswoman Hilda Solis
  • California State Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero
  • Los Angeles City Council Member Jose Huizar

 

To be eligible for an internship position, applicants must meet a minimum grade point average of 3.0.  The internship is open to continuing graduate or undergraduate students in good standing.  The applicant must be willing to work an average of 15 hours per week for the full duration of the placement.  Our next internship placements will be in Spring quarter 2008.
